General Information about the Kissamos Municipal Unit The Municipal Unit of Kissamos consists of the municipal parts of Kissamos, Gramvousa, Kalathenon, Kallergianon, Koukounaras, Lousakion, Platanou, Polyrrinias and Siriariou. The municipal unit of Kisamos offers the chance to see many archaeological sites and monuments, rich vegetation and a sea of primal beauty. In Kisamos you can visit the ruins of the ancient town of the same name and the venetian fort with the few salvaged parts. A visit to the historic island of Gramvousa and more specifically to the cape of the same name, to the venetian fort and the beach of Balos would be a unique experience. Polyrrinia is known for its ancient town and its castle. In Sirikari you will enjoy the magnificent nature, the chestnut forest, the abudant water and the gorge. Falassarna with its two beaches and the ancient city constitute a big attraction for many tourists and with Elafonisi they make ideal destinations for a vacation. In most of the Kissamos villages you can visit churches built inside caves like that of Agios Ioannis Ntamialis and Agios Fotios as well as churches dated back many years like that of Agios Georgios and that of Panagia in Koukounara. Also two venetian rotundas are salvaged, one in Kalathenes and one in Drapanias. The municipal unit off Kissamos is connected by boat with the island of Kythira and Peloponnisos.
