General Information about the Pelekanos Municipal Unit
The Municipal Unit of Pelekanos consists of the communities of Anydra, Agia Triada, Azogyres, Asfendiles, Vathiana, Voutas, Gyalou, Kountoura, Kalamos, Moustakos, Paleochora, Platanoi, Platanes, Sarakina, Sklavopoula and Spanakos. Paleochora has developed a lot touristically in the last few years. It offers many hotels, restaurants and tavernas, coffee shops and bars. Its beaches, like that of Grammenos, are very popular and attract a great number of visitors every summer. You can also enjoy traditional recipies and sweets of superior quality. Paleochora communicates by boat with Sfakia, the island of Gavdos and other destinations. In Kountoura you will enjoy the beautiful secluded small bays and visit the byzantine church of Agios Mamas, Agioi Theodoroi, Agios Ioannis o Theologos and Agios Efstratios. In Anydroi there is the gorge of the same name and the temple of Agios Georgios with murals from the 14th century. East of Paleochora lies the ancient city of Lissos while in the Platanes community you can visit the ancient town Ytrakina built in the Post-Minoan era.

The city of Chania lists hundreds of years of history and has not lost its former glory, and has saved entire Venetian, Turkish and Jewish neighborhoods with well-preserved buildings.
There is daily communication from Chania to Athens from the airport in Akrotiri Chania, 15 km east of the city, and a sea connection with Piraeus through the port of Souda.
