The Metropolitan Anthimos in world Sotirios Syros, was born on March 8, 1953 at Astraka Pediados Heraklion. After his schooling in Heraklion studied in Theology and Philosophy at the University of Athens metekpaidefthike in Geneva and Paris.
He became a monk on April 2, 1977 at the Monastery Agarathou Pediados Heraklion. Ordained deacon on August 18, 1977 by His Eminence Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis (now Thessaloniki), Anthimos and a priest on January 8, 1978 by Archbishop aoidimon Crete, Eugene.
He served as chaplain and preacher of the Holy Archdiocese of Crete (1977-1983), a priest, preacher, general supervisor of intellectual work and head versions of Metropolis & Avlopotamos Rethymno, abbot of the Monastery Atalis Bali Mylopotamou (1983-1996) and Provincial Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Crete (1992-2000).
Also, he was General Secretary of the theological student liaison Athens (1975-76), president of the club Rethimno Asia Minor (1990-1996) and member of the Board The link Cretan Theologians (1995-96).
