General Information of the Municipal Unit of Eleftherios Venizelos

MUSEUM OF SCHOOL LIFE The Museum of School Life of the prefecture of Chania, was founded by the Prefecture of Chania in 2006. It is housed in the old Primary School of Nerokouros located in the homonymous municipal unit of Eleftherios Venizelos, which was renovated. .Ε. The main purpose of the Museum of School Life is to search for the educational and school past in all periods of local and Cretan history in general, its scientific analysis, recording and preservation, as well as its connection with the educational reality of today and tomorrow. . With the active support and contribution of the spiritual and educational forces of the place, as well as with the necessary help and support of the State, the Museum of School Life seeks to develop into an institution with special prestige and importance in educational and pedagogical events. His vision is to highlight critical knowledge and lifelong learning as key components of modern education. The Museum of School Life realizes its goals with various activities, such as exhibitions, workshops, publications, etc. His first exhibition in 2006, which is still open, is entitled: “Let’s bring the wooden desks to life”. The exhibition has already been visited by over 20,000 visitors. The tour of the Museum is done by a specialized theatrical expert. The Museum participates in exhibitions and conferences, in order to make its work known to the public, but also to the academic community. The activities of the Museum are supported by the Association of Friends of the Museum, founded in 2005. The Association of Friends of the Museum organizes parallel activities of informative, entertaining and mainly educational nature, often collaborating with relevant cultural organizations in Greece and abroad.
