The Archaeological Museum of Chania was founded in 1963 and is located on Halidon Street in Chania. The museum’s collection includes finds from excavations in various parts of the city over the past 50 years, and its exhibits cover the cultural history of Chania from the Neolithic period to the Roman Empire.
In the eastern part of the building are placed exhibits of the prehistoric period, while the western part includes exhibits from the Geometric period (around 900-700 BC) to the Roman Empire. All exhibits are placed according to the object or location where they were found.
The Archaeological Museum is a museum that operates, and from its windows you can see the people who work in the small yard, to select and record the excavation materials from the various areas of Chania. The museum organizes periodic exhibitions, educational programs and various cultural events throughout the year, in order to promote the cultural history of Chania in the best possible way, being a pole of attraction for many visitors.
