It is a town located southwest of Crete and is 77 km from the city of Chania. It is built on a peninsula and this gives it a natural privilege to be located between two bays. This means that it has many options on beaches within walking distance of it. More specifically, the beaches of Pachia Ammos, Limnaki, Psilos Volakas, Plakaki, Azuro, Grammeno and Krios extend to the western gulf. While in the eastern gulf there are the beaches of Haliki, Anydron beach and Gialiskari. This means that it does not matter much where the wind comes from because there are many options until you decide which is your beach.

It is a very well known tourist place not only by foreigners but also by Greeks because it is a beautiful and economical destination. In Paleochora there are many restaurants, hotels, cafes, discos and activities to fill his days.

A jewel of the area is the fortress of Paleochora which was built in 1282 and was equipped with two towers on the north and south side.
