Stavroula Manolakou – Pathologist, Oncologist

Stavroula Manolakou was born in 1985 in Amarousio, Attica and grew up in Piraeus. She initially studied Pharmacy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens from 2003 to 2008, with internships in both hospital pharmacy at the General Hospital of Agios Panteleimonas, Nikaia, and in a private pharmacy. She also completed her diploma thesis in collaboration with the Benakeio Phytopathological Institute, with a research field of the development of bioinsecticides that prevent the spread of tropical diseases such as West Nile virus.

He then continued his studies at the Department of Medicine at the University of Patras from 2011 to 2014, while at the same time he received further training and excelled in Medicinal Chemistry and in the design of pharmaceutical products, completing the corresponding interdepartmental postgraduate program (Euromaster) at the University of Patras. In fact, in this context, he prepared a diploma thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Mr. G. Sykiotis, which concerned the study of the metabolomics of differentiated thyroid cancer and the discovery of the role of the transcriptional antioxidant protein Nrf2 in tumorigenesis and resistance to chemotherapy. The publication of the above results in an international journal (JCEM 98 (8), 2013) was awarded by the Hellenic Endocrine Society as the best publication of the year.

\She was subsequently selected as a fellow and research associate from 2014 to 2015 in the endocrinology laboratory at the University Hospital of Lausanne (Switzerland) with the aim of actively participating in clinical laboratory programs and studies related to diseases and neoplasms of the thyroid gland.
